If you haven’t heard about this, DARPA is going to do it again. The upcoming DARPA Grand Robotics Challenge 2012 is going to be for teams to build humanoid robots for use in humanitarian aid crises. Each robot will be put through a series including driving a car, climbing a ladder, opening a door (harder than it sounds), removing debris, replacing failed components, and operating power tools. You can read the full topic call here.
Wish us luck in the meantime. Our approach is somewhat non-traditional, in that it will be “grown” versus engineered and will leverage a novel energy regeneration system we invented that on paper looks like it will create more power than it requires. Cold-fusion anyone? We’re prototyping the system currently to prove we in fact know math (and the system will work).
Science is fun!
